Summer 2010

Hard to believe that the summer is over and we are now well into the fall schedule. Amazing how quickly time passes by! Our family had a great summer. It did seem like we traveled a fair amount and put a few km’s on the van!

I put together a few of my favourite pictures from the summer and they highlight some of the things we did.

Museum of Nature

Tonight I took the boys down to the Museum of Nature to get them out of the house for a while.  Thankfully it was nice and cool at the Museum. Some of you might know that this museum just underwent a bit of a face lift. There are some great hand-on exhibits and stuff for people of all ages. On Thursdays, most museums in Ottawa are free after 5 pm, so it was the perfect night to go!

Here is a little video that I put together from this little excursion.

Canada Day 2010

We enjoyed a wonderful Canada Day in downtown Ottawa. People were well behaved and having a good time. We really enjoyed seeing the Queen and a few other celebrities. This little video highlights some of the things we did downtown. This evening we ended up watching fireworks from our porch and lighting some sparklers.

Earthquake

Well that earthquake this afternoon was crazy! I have never experienced anything like that in my life and confess that my heart is still beating hard an hour later!

I was on a video conference call to CBS National office in Toronto and was not sure what was happening. (Don’t know if they could see the building shaking while I was talking to them?) Strange how your mind thinks in those situations!  I was more concerned about staying on the call than evacuating this 88-year-old building. My colleagues on the phone felt the ground shaking in Toronto.

Early reports are that this was a 5.5 on the Richter scale and was centered about 50 km north of Cumberland, ON.  That is too say that it was very close to Ottawa! People gathered out in the street to share their stories and concerns. Amazing how events like this tend to bring people together

Next time I experience something like this, I am going to evacuate the building immediately and forego the pleasantries of the video conference call! I’m sure that the dinner conversation will be interesting tonight!

Did you feel the earthquake?
