Fundraising Bike Ride

I recently spent a week with our Canadian Bible Society Fund-raising ride down in Southern Ontario. This year the ride was raising money for the Canadian Military and the new mp3 resource. It was an amazing week of connecting with people and seeing the beauty of Ontario.

Most of the money is raised from personal donations and was done before the ride. Due to a few technical glitches, the online site was late getting up, but it is not too late to make a contribution to this cause. (You can help me reach my online goal by donating here) CBS is the only Bible organization in Canada that distributes Bibles into the Canadian Military.

Here is a little video that shares highlights from the week:

People getting Bibles for first time

In today’s world we probably don’t think of people receiving Bibles for the first time. Most Canadian homes have a Bible, or at least easy access to one, two, or three!  How do people react when they get a Bible for the first time?

I have been raving about this little video because it show how excited people can be about getting their first Bible. It brought me to tears the first time I watched it as I saw the excitement and joy for the Bible.  I later learned that one of the pilots flying people in for the celebration was from here in Ottawa.  I’m sure that some of the people working in our CBS Translation office could tell some of the back story to the video.

What do you think?

Is Social Media a FAD?

I am often asked by my colleagues at work if Social Media is a fad? It is an interesting question as most of them are looking for immediate results and impact. In addition, most of them are either uncomfortable with new ways, or just have not given the time necessary to begin to understand it.

I found this little video to be very informative in getting to understand Social Media. Some very interesting statistics about age of users and those who no longer use traditional communication. I think it does answer the question in regards to Social Media being a fad.

Do you have questions about Social Media? What are you skeptical about?

Hungary Update

We just finished our last session of the Summit here in Budapest. I am here representing the Canadian Bible Society and some of the things we are doing with social networking.  It has been great to meet other people involved in this work and to be able to come home with some significant takeaways.

Last night we enjoyed an amazing dinner on the Danube. The fun part was getting there in the rain and I emphasize the word RAIN.  Several people were soaked through by the time we got to the boat. It cruised for several hours and we enjoyed a buffet supper.  It was a little hard to talk as we were at the “band” end of the boat, but out on the deck it was a little quieter. The most spectacular part was the lights of the city once the sun had gone down.

Today has been a day of wrapping up and prioritizing most of the things we have been talking about. After our last session we headed over to see the offices of the Hungarian Bible Society. It was amazing to hear the story of what happened after the Communists took over and how Christianity survived during that time! There work continues to grow and serves the Bible needs of this country.

I feel that it was very helpful to meet here and have some valuable learning lessons from around the world! Looking forward to meeting some of these folks again and sharing some stories! It was also great to see the city of Budapest and some of the beautiful architecture.

Do you have a must “see” place in the world?
